1000WHP+ GT5594 + TH400+ Methanol

I've been on this forum for a while and it's about time I started a build thread.

I bought the car from a local dealer for 32k with 4378 miles on the odometer in April of 2013, car is a 2012 1ss. Was a ls3/ 6 speed car.

First set of mods(spring 2014), cold air inductions cai, tsp 2 inch headers, dynomax race bullet catback, and lpe gt1 cam ( sold this cam to bo white and hes running it in his car with great success). Car made 444/424 on ips motorsports dyno...
I took the car once to the track and ran a best of 12.83@111 on a 2.05 60 foot.

Next set of mods( fall of 2014), gmpp ported ls3 heads, polluter cam, zl1 rear kit(3.73 gears), along with adm solid subframe bushings, bmr trailing arms and toe rods, delrin upper control arm mounts, poly outer trailing arm bushings. Also bought the rear weld rts wheels with mt drag radials. The car made 472/439 on cincy speeds dyno. No track times on this setup

Next round of mods... winter 2014/spring 2015 lsa conversion kit with 2.50 upper, btr stage 3 pd cam, rotofab cai, d3pe hx and coolant reservoir, 160 stat, zl1 pump, adm fpcm, kb 40amp bap, fic 1000cc injectors. Swapped from the m6 to 4l80e built by jakes performance(stage 2), circle d 258mm 2c triple disc converter. Dss 3.5 aluminum driveshaft. Ez tcu trans controller. Car laid down 685/638 at covert tuning dynamics. Ran an 11.97 @ 111, down a cylinder and a very weak fuel pump(died a week later)

Next round of mods. Winter 2015/spring 2016
Lsa accessory drive, 9.55 lower, fore innovations dual 450s, flex fuel sensor, converter restalled to a 1c. Ported snout, nick williams 102mm tb, corsa zl1 catback, npp diffuser, victory red heritage grille, and emblem pro zl1 fender badges. Trans slipped on first outing at the dyno, sent back to jakes and had it rebuilt and upgraded to their stage 3 trans. Made 595/677 on 93 pump and 731/711 on e85 @ 19psi. Best e.t. to date- 10.38@132, 1.54 60'

2017-18
under construction

2019-
Best et of the season. 8.38@163.15

Hell of a build! Much needed build thread....
I would add some links to your LSA install so others can see you hard work!

So this Wednesday I'm trying to get a couple of my buddies to go to Norwalk with me so I can get a baseline on the car before I add some more power. Time will tell if we actually go... I hope so lol

I'm hoping for 125-130 mph traps and high 10s but probably won't happen my first time out with it

I'm leaning towards an alky control dual nozzle meth kit as of right now over e85 to save some $$$. I will eventually make the switch but money is a little tight right now.

hammdo 08-06-2015 11:13 PM

With that many changes, I'd bet $$$$ gets tight!

Lots of cool cars you got there...

Thanks!

My weakness has always been my cars lol

I'm thinking about building a motor for my camaro and putting the ls3 in my chevelle with a bigger turbo. I'm slacking and have yet to finish the car after it blew up with the wrenchrat turbo setup in it

This is the old setup

Had some issues at the track that I can't seem to grasp.

The mph and et are way off.... thinking it's tune related as I bogged off the line with the 1.74 60 foot

So my lnc 2000 showed up today along with a much better tire pressure gauge. Can't wait to go to the track again. Let's see how leaving off the brake picks up(still doesn't explain loss in power/et)...

So after troubleshooting my problem ended up being a burnt wire. #3 wire was laying against the tube.

Did a leakdown test on all 8 to verify the motor was ok. Everything was good. Also did a compression test on #3 which yielded 210psi

Gapped plugs from .045 to .030 on the ngk 7s. Put a set of msd multi angle wires and dei titanium sleeves on. I shouldn't have to worry about burning another wire now, they're not even close!

Now I just need that accessory drive to get rid of the belt slip ( belt dust pictured below)

Today I'm wiring the transbrake and lnc 2000. After a quick call to jakes performance, they said I would need to ground the b selenoid( 2-3 shift selenoid) to activate the brake. Looked at my ez tcu instructions and it's the yellow wire coming out of the trans plug. Will be really simple to install!

Also a look at my wires and sleeves

ttshovel 08-24-2015 11:26 PM

Well just to update, the transbrake wouldn't hold. I ended up calling jakes performance and they are covering shipping both ways and fixing it! Now that's customer service!

I decided that I would take advantage of the trans being out and get my free restall from circle d. They said the most they can get out of this converters size is 3800 so that's what I'm going with.

Not quite how I planned this to go but it happens. It Should be very strong out of the hole now!

hammdo 08-25-2015 12:15 AM

Who did you order the sleeves from for the spark plug wires?

I did install the sultans of spark (coils) to prevent 'blowout' of the spark under boost (or so it says it prevents). Mine are gapped to .040.

I'm going to add a green belt on mine to ensure no 'slipping' of the belt -- I'm not seeing any belt residue, but I'm probably not pushing mine as hard as you are ;o)

Keep it coming!

-Don

ttshovel 08-25-2015 03:46 AM

They are dei titanium sleeves and I got them through jegs, they price matched amazon for 51.xx

And thanks Don, it's definitely a long process

ttshovel 09-21-2015 04:04 PM

Got the trans back in the car with the converter restalled as a 4b. This converter is what I was missing performance wise! Turned this car into a whole other animal. I can brake boost to 3000-3200. Transbrake is functional.

Added a wideband bung to the passenger header while the car was down. Just need to pick up a wideband now

Looking at getting some new tires before going back to the track.

williamp78 09-25-2015 08:17 PM

I went with a 3b. Circle d says it's a 3800-4k converter. Most people say it's too big. My experience in my years of cars says it will be perfect.

SSE 4 2SS 09-25-2015 09:16 PM

Really nice work going on in here. Love the updates...

Couldn't agree more, my car made peak torque at 4200, so it's only logical to have a converter flash to around there...

Also should add, it takes about 2500-3k rpms to get really moving. Everyone looks at me as if I'm slipping the shit out of my clutch lol

Thanks man, It takes time to get things all sorted out...

Picked up a set of oem zl1 floor mats off craigslist. Brand new in the plastic for $70

Taking my car to get my fender fixed after someone opened their car door into it as I was driving by. Going to have my door resprayed from a scratch that was on the car when I got it. Also going to have him fill the 3 trunk holes and respray it for the zl1 wing. making it a zl1 clone little by little

hammdo 09-26-2015 06:06 PM

Oh, I'd be so pissed on that smacking the fender.

BTW, I got the 'red' version of the spark plug wire covers -- like having those...

ZL1 clone? I'm all over that ;o)...

Keep it up!

Hahaha. i love that. Takes me back to my big block mopar days. Use to run some massive converters.

Got the car back! Guy did one hell of a job... total cost $230, what a steal!!!

I got my zl1 alternator in from the local dealership. Tail light tint will be here tomorrow. I plasti dipped my tail light bezels flat black tonight. The spoiler and zl1 emblem should be here sometime this week!

Found this great product- griots speed shine, by far the best quick detailer I've ever used!

Just a picture showing the car all cleaned up and with all the tint on it ( I know the windows need tinted lol)

Ordered, the zl1 power steering pump ( same as the ss, just wanted to keep my other accessories for another project), power steering pulley and mounting bracket, a/c compressor bracket, and alternator bracket.

Now I just need the water pump, a/c compressor and belt, idlers, and ati balancer. Leaning towards having the snout ported by new era and getting a nw 102 tb.

Progress is being made!

Got the wing on. Its the ebay prepainted one that was $149 shipped. Color match is spot on and it fit perfect.

Finally got around to changing the transmission pan gasket. Replaced the cork one for a gm gasket.

Got a set of the hoosier 18157s. Getting them mounted Saturday. Going to the track November 8th (weather permitting) excited to see what she will run.

Think I might have went too loose on the converter. Cars I was putting bus lengths on before are now door to door until I lockup the converter. Will log some pulls and calculate converter slip. Might be a dig only car now lol

So I was still having back feeding problems with the 2 step. Wired the 2 step and transbrake on their own separate relay and that took care of it.

Got the slicks on the car and they look great! Some videos testing out the 2 step and transbrake. enjoy!!!

NICE!

ttshovel 11-06-2015 06:10 AM

So after a lot more research, I need to buy another power steering pump assembly. Gmparts direct has a part# for a zl1 which I bought and apparently all zl1s are electric ps. Sooo, f me lol. The correct pump is for a ctsv. I will be adding a complete parts list of 100% everything I used to convert to a lsa accessory drive.

Will be sending the torque converter back to get restalled yet again. Still planning on going to the track sunday for the last time this year.

williamp78 11-06-2015 08:02 AM

Too big a converter?

Unfortunately. It rips down low but falls off on the mid range and top end. When I talked to them this time they told me I needed a 1b? Live and learn I guess

williamp78 11-06-2015 02:26 PM

Mine is big but I don't run past a 1/4 anyways

In third gear the car just makes noise until I hit lockup then it starts accelerating again. I guess I'll deal with it being on the tight side vs ridiculous amounts of converter slip.

williamp78 11-06-2015 04:20 PM

What size is it?

BUNNY15 11-06-2015 05:30 PM

This is a very nice post. I have thought about doing a clone myself. Glad to see I wasn't crazy with my thoughts. Keep the posts coming!!

ttshovel 11-06-2015 11:13 PM

It's a 4b.

And my fuel pump decided to take a crap tonight for no reason. So now I have to weigh my options of meth injection and new pump vs squash or fore dual pumps and e85... decisions decisions

williamp78 11-07-2015 04:38 PM

Man if I was there I'd go E85 being boosted. Mine is a 3b but supposed to be 38-4K. Feels more like 36 ish. Anyways car looks slick man. Keep it up

ttshovel 11-29-2015 03:33 PM

Thought I'd give a small update, I got all of the metco idler pulleys, water pump, and ctsv power steering pump. Just need the ati damper to install it all.

Also took advantage of jokerz peformance black friday sale and bought a snout port. Will be pulling the blower off this week and sending it out.

Going to be sending the converter out to be restalled as a 1b.

Decided on a squash dual setup with a dsx flex fuel sensor.
