Are 1LE's that rare?

I'll be in the market for a 2014 1LE next summer, so have obviously spent every spare minute on this site :smiling1:

Between this site, cars.com, ebay, and others...the 1LE's asking prices seem very far off from KBB...by 10-20%...or $4-$8K higher than KBB private party value.

I see a few out there, but are they really that rare that they're selling for way over KBB value? The only thing I can't see online is how much they're actually selling for...just the asking price.

Camaro Dude 01-06-2015 01:42 PM

Well, the '13 1LE's are even more rare (cigarette).

Muscle Car Memories 01-06-2015 01:43 PM

I live here in Naples, Fl and I am sure there are probably some here but I havent seen any except for mine of course, so I do think they are few and far between...

TheGhosty 01-06-2015 01:47 PM

Saw a LE at the dealership this morning for $45k. pretty much what they go for. Have you considered buying a used garage queen and adding the LE package yourself? You can buy a whole kit from GM. You should consider it if you're desperate to save a buck.

hrpiii 01-06-2015 01:48 PM

They are all over Indy. Not rare around here at all.

Adding a "complete 1LE" package "a la carte" would not be cost effective at all, as he would still have to swap rear diff, tranny, mags, etc, and dare I even say software changes to the ABS/Traction Control, to make it all "1LE" like.

That's right! I forgot it's running a different rear! Ya the OP is definitely better off finding an LE. Check CarMax they will ship the cars out to you pretty affordably.

Andoskyy 01-06-2015 01:59 PM

Not desperate to save a buck, just wondering if that's what they go for. If that's what they go for, that's what I'll have to pay.

It'll be a second weekend vehicle, so in no rush to get one and will wait for the right deal. It's just the first vehicle I've ever looked for that the asking price is so far over KBB value.

Also looking to make it a road trip. Fly to where the car is and drive it home. Always wanted to do a cross country (or partial) roadtrip.

Not long ago I built a 2014 1LE on Chevy's website before I got my 2015 and what I came up with was like $38,500 and ive never seen one that cheap, mine was $44k w/20%, had I not gotten that discount I wouldnt have bought it, I would have just kept my 2014 1SS.

There is no production limit on these cars so dealer markup is them just trying to take advantage of people I think, and make as much $ as they can. Once the 2016 comes out ALL 5th Gens will likely take a hit....maybe less on the 1LE if they dont offer it in the first MY of the 2016.

I bought my 2013 brand new in Oct 2012, and paid $41K for a 2SS with NPP and Heritage Grille.

The $38,500 is the same car as we bought in 2013. It is a 1SS with the 1LE package...nothing else. We added the BA sound system, which i am not convinced was worth it, but if you add the 2SS package ($3500 more) and the RS package (like 1800 more), NPP (900 more) and things like the backup camera, you get well into the $40K's real quick. I imagine to get the low cost version, you have to order it.

Balrog 1LE 01-06-2015 03:15 PM

I live in Los Angeles. Only seen 1 or 2 on the road ever since they re-introduced the 1le's. But every time I go to a dealer I see 1 or 2 on the lot so it might just be that people aren't buying them here. I've also heard they're going out of production in 2016. If thats true, they'll be rare soon enough.

Camaro_Corvette 01-06-2015 03:19 PM

Depends on what you consider "rare" From what I can tell, the 13's that sell on this site move in less than a week mostly. Unless it's Yellow.

"Rare" enough to get a 10-20% premium over KBB value.

From the responses so far, it seems pretty normal that they're going for above KBB value. Just what I wanted to know, thanks!

It's weird. Aside from car shows, I've only seen 2 others on the road or at a dealership... but then there are 3 at work (mine plus 2). Having said that, one of the guys at work ordered one after seeing mine. I see more ZL1s than 1LEs. I wonder if the manual only is a deterrent for some buyers. When I bought mine, only 1 dealership in the area knew what it was or had allocation... which I think contributes to how few are in my area.

skipinminn 01-06-2015 05:10 PM

I have a yellow 1ss 1LE 2013. It's 1 of only 28 Made :) That's pretty rare.

Thats a cool poster you got there.

My 1le is same as yours and same color except mine is a 2015, I will be anxious too see how many in yellow were made for the 2015 year. I would say it will be pretty close to yours..:thumb:

That's awesome!

fabric8 01-06-2015 07:22 PM

Inferno Orange Metallic would be a rare/limited production color. Only used in year one then discontinued.

Victory red as well. Depending how good your eyes are:laugh:

Austin45 01-06-2015 08:19 PM

1LEs account for 2% of all Camaro sales.

You are not going to save any money doing it that way. To do the full package would cost over 13k in parts alone not including any labor, tax or shipping.

Here is the full list your 3500 buys you:
close ratio manual transmission that has higher final drive (3.91 vs. 3.45)
air-to-liquid cooling system lifted from the ZL1 (trans and oil coolers)
20-inch wheels covered in Goodyear Eagle Supercar G:2 tires, 285 on all 4 corners
Improved wheel bearings (zl1)
Improved toe links
upgraded sub-frame bushes
Better rear shock mounts
rear monotube shocks
thicker antiroll bars(27mm front, 28mm rear)
strut-tower bar
beefed up the rear-axle half-shafts
ZL1's high-capacity fuel pump and additional fuel pickups were also added to prevent fuel starvation in hard-cornering situations.
matte-black hood
functional front splitter
rear spoiler
Oil catch can
red Brembo brake calipers
ZL1's flat-bottom, microfiber-covered steering wheel
short shifter topped with a microfiber shift knob.

Summary:
$2,600 in suspension parts
$2,100 for rear diff and axles
$4,700 in wheels and tires
$4,000 in transmission
$13,400 in parts, not including aero (front splitter, rear spoiler) or interior (suede steering wheel and shifter), zl1 fuel pump, oil catch can, trans and oil coolers, hood wrap, tax, shipping or labor.

1 of 64 2013 yellow 2SS 1LEs. I live in North Dallas and drive frequently to Austin. I have only seen 3 other 1LEs ever, 1 2013 and 2 2014s. Never seen one at a dealership except the one where I found mine.

backeddy 01-06-2015 09:03 PM

Here in the CA bay area, I have never seen another on the road, and I drive a lot (2-3k miles per month). I have only ever come across 2 ZL1's one being at the track.

Camaro_Corvette 01-06-2015 09:12 PM

We have most of the 1LE's in Indiana. There is at least 3 in the Cicero area.

I was sitting at hooters a couple weeks ago and saw my exact same car pull into a parking space right outside my window.

Muscle Car Memories 01-06-2015 09:37 PM

Most dealers I talked to dont even want to discount a 1LE because they know they will get sticker for them, until the 20% discount came and went...

Punisher80 01-06-2015 09:41 PM

I have seen about 6 in the San Diego area, but for every (1) 1LE I see, I see 15 V6 Camaro's...

parkerss 01-06-2015 09:41 PM

There are a lot where I live. Neat car but buy a ZL1. Unless your waiting for the 2016 with the LT4 motor in it. Less weight and a lot more HP.

Bizaro 01-06-2015 10:08 PM

5th gen camaro rare? unless you have the COPO dont even bother, haahahahahahaahahah:lol::lol::lol:

Blue_11RS 01-06-2015 10:39 PM

My 13' is 1 of 20...funny thing is my co worker has the exact same car only with the 2SS

X25 01-06-2015 11:12 PM

It's not about rarity. KBB just does not recognize the importance (value) of this package, and rather treats it like any other option (like those 21" wheels, etc.).

Makes sense! That's all I wanted to know. When I'm looking...if I see a 1LE above KBB value, its not a bad deal...its just what they go for.

Can't wait to be an official member! Hopefully that 20% off deal comes around again when the '16's are released!

GONIF 01-07-2015 10:43 AM

Mine is not rare ,it is WELL DONE.
