License plate rejected
 

I decided to go with a personalized plate it said the obvious. 14 1LE

I received a notice today from california dmv stating it was offensive and wouldn't be permitted. I understand they have their rules but I'm curious how is that considered offensive? Maybe I am missing something?

I'm curious to know. I have been trying to figure out how that is offensive myself.

That's offensive? There's a guy with a Viper that comes to my work that has a plate that reads MY (heart symbol) ON.

Looks like someone at the DMV is on an ego trip and just felt like rejecting the 'next' application???

Maybe the "LE" part. LE may be confused with Law Enforcement? Just a wild guess and not sure how it would be offensive even if that is the issue.

Don't know either? When I got mine they asked what it meant and she wrote it on the form. Do they do that there?

I dont see how that is offensive. I once saw a plate in georgia that said MILF.

I have 1LE BEE so that's pretty weird... Shouldn't be 1LE... I would contact your local DMV or go in and ask why 14 1LE is being rejected??

I have 1LE on my plates too, no problems.

maybe it is alreading taken and they are just giving you the canned answer? not seeing how that could be offensive! maybe try 20141LE insted?

Virginia DMV turned this one down until I explained it was going on my 1969 Chevrolet Indy Pace Car.

Ya I applied online 20141LE was taken so went with 14 1LE. When applying it asks you what it means I put it's the option for the car and explained what the option was. Figured it would be ok. Guess not. Now I have to start over

Contact the DMV and see if you can appeal it. I'm sure you can submit an appeal letter. Your justification for the plate is obviously your car's year/model and hopefully the DMV will understand then.
You live in the RepubliK of Kalifornia so it's possible they still won't understand though...

I had the same issue in Pa with the License Plate Guru and he wouldn't budge and it wasn't taken as you can punch in what you want on their website and it will tell you right away if its not available but once you see its not taken you send your money in with like 3 choices. I was so sure on the first try that I was going to get mine I only picked the one (it wasn't taken) ! Oh it was Jax SS that I was trying to get.

that's weird. who knows what the people at the DMV is thinking

If "FSTPHKR" isnt rejected I dont see how yours would be. :confused:

My friend caught one in Illinois the other day that said "b j head" wtf? You can call and ask why and I would.

Indiana has stopped with personalized plates. Started this summer, a police officer had oink on his and someone complained it was offensive so they stopped all new applications

That's one of the dumbest things I've heard for a while. The officer obviously has a good sense of humor and some other resident has none at all, so they are punishing everyone.

If you find out why 14 1LE is offensive, let us know. I sure don't see it.

Uhhhh I've tried to say it fast, slow and offensively and for the life of me nothing sounds remotely reject-able:crazy:

I can't figure out why it was rejected either. Please check into it further and find out what about it they found was offensive and then let us know. As some others have said on this thread, I have seen many that I think should have been rejected. Maybe just a simple appeal would be adequate, but in the state of CA, I doubt if anything in government is simple.

Ok so I was at work and my wife told me about this. I just got home it says it was sexually offensive. Lol ok.... I asked my wife to call the dmv before it closed she said the lady told her she didn't see how it was offensive and the only thing I can do is appeal. She gave her the address so I will be putting the appeal in ASAP and see how it goes. I just just very curious as to how/why it would be sexually offensive.

I figure I will include info on the 1LE and see where it goes.

I will keep you updated on the outcome I am sure it will be comical

Tell them to google it - I've been doing that for the past 10 minutes and can't find anything objectionable, and of course most hits are Camaro 1LE stuff.

14 ONE LAY maybe? It's possible it was rejected because LE could be pronounced "LAY." Either way, I'd like to hear what the DMW thinks 14 1LE means!

It's because they drive hybrid cars & are offended at your obvious lack of concern for the environment by driving a huge gas guzzling, oil burning, rubber laying, pedal mashing, air polluting, high speed inducing, loud noise making V8. I say screw 'em.

you have missed the obvious - the person doing the application at the DMV drives a BOSS or R/T and did not get his plate DNTPSSME so they denied the application. As for the sexual reference I believe since he drives the above he knew he would have to change his plate to IMSCRWD everytime he saw it.

I'm pretty sure the lady reviewing the application did a google search for "14 1le" saw a picture of the car and though "dang, that's sexy". You know what happened after that. Lol - congrats on the car and sorry some ridiculous person is causing you to waste your time
