I doubt a short production run in a given year coupled with larger numbers in other years creating enhanced value, unless that short run had unique attributes. My Porsche Turbo is an example, as 94 was the only year with the 3.6 motor, and only 400 produced for the US.

Good question. I think there is a long history of this with US makes. I don't know if that's because the US factories kept detailed information on the builds, so that collectors could easily find out if their car was somehow unique or "special". Maybe someone here could clarify this.
I don't honestly care if my 2014 Z/28 is collectible or not. It is a tool -- a beautiful tool that I will lovingly care for, but a track-day tool nonetheless. The loss of a friend to cancer, about 3 years back, made me vow to never own a garage queen again. Life's too short to not fully enjoy what we have NOW -- so if Chevy will just build and ship my car, I can get busy wearing out Trofeos... :D
